Yami to boushi to Hon no Tabibito – Final Thoughts

This one was great. I like how the story unfolded. Trying to create the feeling of something epic isn’t easy to do, especially with only 13 episodes, but this one did it nicely. Granted, it wasn’t quite epic, as the word truly means, but it did tell one helluva story. I would’ve loved to see this one expanded to a longer series. It didn’t necessarily feel rushed but the stories just seemed short. This one will definitely make it into my top ten “animes that are totally weird yet for some reason I like it” list. Umm… ok, I just now made up that list.

I loved the characters especially. Pretty much anyone that had a name had their characters fleshed out well. Ken-chan was hilarious.

A solid anime filled with comedy, romance, great short stories, and fun characters. Neither the ecchi level nor the yuri bothered me but I’m sure those would detract some from enjoying it. It’s a shame though. They’d be missing out on a great story.

Overall series score: 8.7 out of 10

That was probably the best way to end Hatsuki’s story. It’s just impossible for Hatsumi to stay, right? Yeah, it sucks but it would’ve been too far-fetched if something was made up (as if things weren’t that crazy in this anime anyway). It was nice for Eve to set things right for Hatsuki. The implication was subtle but I think Hatsuki killed herself before things were changed. She wasn’t around when Eve opened the book to her world so I can’t see any different explanation for it. Maybe she did somehow go to a different world but I don’t see how. Well, that’s not that important.

It seems I was wrong. They finally did show who Aaya was. I never guessed on him being the hat. I guess the human-like Aaya was just a personification of the hat. It kinda makes sense. He pops up anywhere and he helps set things right… kinda like the phrase “the all-seeing eye.” It also makes sense as to how he knew all the details of all these stories since he was there and he saw it all. Guess there really was a reason why that huge hat had a phat eye on it.

That was… anti-climatic. I thought the ending stories would be a bit longer but everything was closed off in just this one ep. Well, Hatsuki’s story needs more work (if it wants to be a “good” ending) but the rest are pretty much done.

Garu’s ending was sudden. I had a fleeting thought that his good ending would involve Ritsuko, waaaaay back during the first story of them, but that was it. It seemed so apparent that his ending involved Jiru, and of course, given how that would be impossible, it’d be a less-than-good ending for him. Oh well, it was nice enough for him, though I’m not sure if he was deserving it. Of course, it was a great ending for Ritsuko since she got screwed being a good person so I guess it works out.

Lilith got the ending she wanted but then again, it was obvious Eve would return anyway.

Heh, even Meiru got a nice ending… kinda. Well if it’s what she wanted then it was nice. I don’t know if Aaya liked it though, heh. Unfortunately, I still don’t know who he is and it seems I never will.

Hatsuki’s ending wasn’t that great even though it was inevitable. But I’ll leave out my thoughts on that for now since there’s still one more episode. Heh, all these “what I thought of the endings” comments could be for naught if the last episode changes things. Well, let’s see then…

Oh? She finally appears… and this time, it seems it’s really her (and the fact that there’s only two eps left).

Hatsumi. Eve. Jiru.

She’s gathered quite a collection of names. This just might be the final story.

Damn. That was a helluva twist at the end. The world’s the girls encounter range all over the place. Given the overall theme of this anime, I never expected one set in space.

Enough typing! I must find out what happens next!!
