Simoun [21-26] (Fin)

I’ve decided on a compromise.

I’m gonna log the last set of episodes as a timeline. Basically, I’ll jot down the time in the episode with whatever thought popped in my head. I’ll also note the actual time when I start each episode. This way, I can be satisfied with having all my nonsensical thoughts recorded w/o having to organize it. The only thing I’ll add in later is screenies.

From here on, everything is a running log in actual time until I finish the series.

(No caps yet as I have a shitload and I don’t feel like sorting through them atm. I’ll update this entry tomorrow.)

Episode [21]
Started – 9:02 PM

03:15 – Politician = ownt
03:39 – WTF Limone?
04:34 – WTF Dominura?
06:42 – Politician = ownt again
09:43 – Are Limone/Dominura in the new world or in some transition world?
09:44 – And are they aware of their situation, being alive and such?
13:46 – So Aeru’s grandpa was part of the elite Chor Dextra.
14:08 – Well, that answers if they were aware, haha.
17:08 – Well shit, all my guessing on what happens to the bodies during the Emerald Ri Maajon was all for naught. To a different time? Wow… exceeded all my possible assumptions.
18:23 – Aeru’s grandpa and Dominura were apart of Chor Dextra… exactly how friggin’ old is Dominura? Heh.
20:10 – So Dominura went back in time and started everything but she wouldn’t have been around if things didn’t start… Gawd I hate time paradoxes. Herts mi brein.
Ep. End – So that was one of the Arcus’ that went down at the beginning. What’s up with the enemy Simouns? When some confronted Mamiina, they came off as good people. They didn’t want to harm the Sibyllae… and now they take out an entire capital ship along with who knows how many Sibyllae?

Hmm…

Episode [22]
Started – 9:40 PM

03:00 – The girls are crazy short-handed.
06:13 – Well shit, what’s the deal with the friggin’ enemy Simouns?
09:39 – Ugh, a promise in this kind of anime. I’m afraid now.
11:35 – It’s interesting seeing Aeru jealous.
15:15 – Guess Alta’s lil talk with Parietta has helped her to move on.
16:30 – Hah, not just move on. She’s straight up confident now.
20:05 – Hehe, maybe Aeru is just plain war hungry.
21:03 – Crazy battle; that’s what was missing, a true leader.
Ep. End – Calm before the storm? Shit, saw the next episode preview. The wars over already? I’ve commented several times how the war and other stories relating to it wasn’t at the forefront; even though I always referred to it as the main story. There was a part of me that figured the war to “end” before the series was over. I wouldn’t have guessed four episodes before the end though.

Plenty of loose ends still left. Will it all be downhill from here or are there more surprises awaiting the finale? Why do I bother with these incessant questions instead of watching? Geh, another question.

Episode [23]
Started – 10:17 PM

04:10 – I tried to remain positive a few minutes ago but… the war did end rather anti-climatically. I almost agree with Floe’s “it feels bleah.”
04:43 – Eh, I completely missed something. If Dominura was the only surviving member of Chor Dextra, then Aeru’s grandpa can’t have been in the same crew. So Aeru’s grandpa was in an earlier incarnation of Chor Dextra? Oh maybe his Emerald Ri Maajon succeeded, got sent back through time, went through the motions and Aeru was born in this time… yeah, again with the stretching.
10:06 – Plumbum isn’t that bad. Why did they align themselves with Argentium? They seem as noble as the Sibyllae. Well, their Priestesses anyway. Did I totally miss something? I feel like I did.
16:47 – What the… why did Aeru brush off Neviril? I know she’s a bit jealous but I didn’t think it was this severe. Now she’s being a baby.
18:39 – Hahaha, Aeru and Floe’s conversation is great.
20:50 – Damn, the leader chick is going nutso.
20:04 – Geh, Onashia was part of Chor Dextra too?
Ep. End – I, umm… dunno. The episode was passive throughout and while this or that was going on with the aftermath of the war and the girls’ reactions, Yun is gettin’ all this info about Onashia. Of which, I R CONFOOSD.

Episode [24]
Started – 10:54 PM

09:58 – Poor poor jealous Aeru. She even ran off in typical jealous fashion with her arms swinging high. Aww, ok I’ll stop poking fun. It’s just that now it’s such a difference in the tone since all those episodes before the last couple. It’s almost like a normal romantic comedy.
10:15 – Long-shot guess: Yun is gonna be the new Onashia.
14:00 – Wow, didn’t expect Neviril to drop the bomb like that so easily. Granted, Aeru did give her reason too. Ah see! See what I mean about the tone? It’s obvious since the tone of my own babbling has changed.
16:34 – I was kinda joking about Yun and Onashia. Though, in retrospect it was obvious what would happen, huh? My guess wasn’t much of a guess then. Dammit.
20:15 – Man, just like that it’s over for these girls?
21:30 – Yet they’re in such high spirits. Am I the only one that’s feeling “bleah?”
Ep. End – Well, Yun being at The Spring is obviously no surprise. The question is if she is the new “Onashia” or if her whole deal is something entirely different. Or other? It’d be a trip if the girls didn’t have to change no more and everything would remain fine. Wishful thinking, though.

Episode [25]
Started – 11:27 PM

02:47 – Of course it’s the obvious answer for Yun. I really need to stop speculating when I’ll have the answer minutes later… but, it’s so fun to do so.
03:42 – LAWL @ Floe.
07:05 – Hah… thinking about this or that, I never contemplated on what gender each of the girls would decide on. Bah, now it’s too late.
09:28 – Awwwwww… Aeru is so innocent and cute now. I can’t hate on her for being how she’s been in the last couple episodes. I’m such a sucker.
Ep. End – I took a peek at the next episode preview. I rarely do that as sometimes it’s spoiler ridden and I especially don’t have a reason to check them out if I already have the following episode. In any case, this time I did so cuz… hell if I know.

So, it’s an epilogue, eh? Rather rare for an anime to have an epilogue let alone an entire episode devoted to one. This has been an incredible watch. I can’t imagine the last episode lowering my enjoyment of this series. Hell, there’s a higher possibly that my rating will go up.

Episode [26]
Started – 11:58 PM

04:07 – Aww, tease. Sure, don’t show Limone and Dominura’s situation for several episodes and when you finally do, throw in all kinds of ambiguous implications to toy with my mind.
04:08 – Time to keep a log on our girls! There’s 12 girls in total. Mamiina’s story is closed but in case there’s something, I’ll note it but she’s not part of the tally.
05:25 – Morinas and Waporif hooked up as expected. That’s 1 down, 11 to go.
05:55 – Oh snap, totally didn’t realize that was Erif. Leave it to this series to not leave anything left open. Good shit.
06:45 – Jumping back and forth between times? That explains an entire episode for the epilogue since it’s NOT just for the epilogue.
08:25 – Paraietta and Rodoreamon opened up a shelter, that’s sweet. 3 down, 9 to go.
11:32 – The sisters are together and living a serene life. Cute. 5 down, 7 to go.
12:15 – Yun’s… the same. It’s sad but… for Onashia’s sake. Damn, incredible sacrifice. Or was she punishing herself as well? 6 down, 6 to go.
13:34 – Stupid intro. Made me think Dominura was gone and shit. It was that damn basket Limone was holding. Cheap shot man, cheap. Their story isn’t over yet.
16:32 – So Aeru and Neviril went to Limone and Dominura’s time?
17:05 – I suppose this is Limone and Dominura’s closure? Are they off to another time or…? 8 down, 4 to go.
19:30 – Hot damn Floe is different. Given how she’s been, it’s amazing to see her like this. Male Floe is kinda creepy, haha. Vyura is… hmm. I put her in the 12 since she was part of it at the end but she never got a story, did she? Ah well, 10 down, 2 to go.
Ep. End – I knew it. Friggin’ open endings. I was hoping for a definitive conclusion simply because I’ve put in way more thought into this series than I planned. To think I thought this was gonna be a simple series.

As if.

Well, this is the end. I want some time to mull over things so I’ll put up an entry later with an organized thought on the ending as well as a mini-review. And yes, this will be my highest rated blogged series to date.

Simoun [17-20]

I lied.

I had hoped to finish the series then throw up a massive entry or at least catch a few more episodes but that was not to be. I fear the massive entry will turn out beyond massive and since the last episode ended w/o much of a cliffhanger, this really would make the best stopping point.

Yeah, I’m justifying myself. Shut it.

These caps are only from episode 17.

I neither felt like sorting through all the caps nor properly laying them out nor deleting them therefore I threw them all below after the cut cuz I had a shitload.

In other words, I’m lazy.

On to these episodes.

These episodes opened up some crazy developments… and incredible shockers.

Episode 17 was a wrap-up of the incident with Limone and Dominura until near the end, when the girls discovered The Spring inside the ruins along with a dead Angulas poppin’ up out of nowhere. And those weren’t the big discoveries. Along with the beginning of episode 18, I am now to believe that helical motors and who knows what else within the Tempus Spatium religion is connected with some other world? And this thing about a different time and space… or something… metaphysical indeed.

At least now, after some conversations in episode 18, Aeru has a real (yet undisclosed) reason for wantin’ to fly. Thankfully it didn’t remain as the lame indecisive one. With this coming into the story, she seems more determined. It may go beyond simply wantin’ to fly… as if she has another goal.

Neviril has changed too. She seems stronger and due to that, she’s accepting Aeru… sorta. At least she’s not being a bitch to her anymore. Of course, all this has made Paraietta get even more spastic and she damn near raped Neviril. Jealousy truly does make a person look ugly… yet I still pity her… a bit.

Now for the real crazy stuff. Episode 19 made me triple-take. Until this point, no one died for certain. Until this point. Dammit. Mamiina was really growing on me too. She went from hate the world to sacrificing herself not only for Neviril but for some Priestesses that she didn’t even know. And… and… dammit. It’s not enough saying I didn’t expect that. Nor is it enough to say that was some crazy shit.

I have no words for how I reacted after her scene. I watched it several times to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Maybe, just maybe, the shot wasn’t fatal. The very beginning of episode 20 and Mamiina in the “ER” gave me a sliver of hope. Until, like, a minute later when they made sure to clear up any doubt on her demise. Assholes.

Speaking of assholes, those politicians need to fuckin’ die. Bastards.

And lastly, episode 20 wrapped up the events of episode 19. The girls went through some serious heartache due to Mamiina’s death, especially Aeru. She’s been putting up such a strong front until now, it was surprising how hard she took things. I may be stretching but this only adds to the suspicion that the other “dead” girls may not be dead at all. Aeru didn’t even flinch when Limone got smoked. I only mention her since Aeru was fairly close to Limone. Does this mean Aeru believes they are alive or maybe she knows they are in a “better place?” Mamiina is the first to be considered 100% gone and that’s why Aeru took it so emotionally.

Yeah, I’m probably reaching.

The last scene of episode 20 was heart-warming. Goodbye Mamiina. *sniff*

To finish things up:

Aeru: I have to go.
Yun: Me too.
(Both girls take off running to the hangers)

That will possibly be my favorite scene in this anime. It was so awesome. No need for long-winded discussions or explanations. That tiny conversation said so much. Pure awesome.

There. Done. Let’s finish this series up.

Only excess caps after the cut. Nothing more.

Simoun, briefly (part deux)

I think I’ll blog less from now on. I probably should have done so sooner. I babble a lot per episode and many of my “wtf?” outbursts are being answered in the following episode. If I’m gonna watch another episode right away, it kinda seems pointless to post don’t it?

I do enjoy my babblings. It really is an outlet for my incessant thoughts. But, that’s not the only reason. I’m also “wasting time” typing instead of watching cuz this shit keeps gettin’ better.

Episode 17 gave me chills. Literally. I had chills or goosebumps or whatever you wanna call it; they were especially prominent during this episodes final scenes. I need to strap down and get more of this shit into my system before letting it out.

On with the show!

…and I’ll be back… eventually.

EDIT: Just finished episode 20. THANK GOD it wasn’t yet another cliffhanger. I’d hate to marathon the rest of the series and be late to work haha.

This shit is insane. My next entry is gonna be fuckin’ huge hahaha.

And for my mini-review in the near future… at this rate, this may be my highest rated blogged anime. It’s been that damn good.

No fuckin’ around tomorrow. I must finish this series.

Simoun [16]

Holy shit.

It was only a matter of “when” for the next Emerald Ri Maajon to appear and I’m sure I wasn’t alone in thinking it would be Aeru and Neviril to do it. For it to be Limone and Dominura, that was surprise number one.

Surprise number two was the aftermath. Unlike Neviril and Amuria, Limone and Dominura succeeded in the Ri Maajon (or so it seems). And they still got jacked.

HOLY SHIT.

BAD END. NO DOUBT.

This episode was damn close to being my favorite episode. The culmination of the previous episodes hit huge. I still favor episode 8 slightly more. That one had so many developments and twists, it’d be hard to beat. This one did have an advantage though. I don’t think I’ve ever felt depressed and relieved at the same time. As soon as Limone and Dominura got toasted, the other Simouns returned along with the Arcus Prima. Depressed and relieved. Sad and happy. At the same time. Effectively.

Crazy shit. Crazy episode. Crazy story that I have no idea what to expect.

Btw, in my book, crazy = good.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to note something in one of the previous entries. Limone and Dominura’s unfortunate incident reminded me. As of now, these two along with Amuria are presumed dead but Waporif’s comment about Amuria’s cockpit a few episodes ago makes me wonder. Maybe they’re all alive cuz Tempus Spatium protected them. Or maybe they did die and are in some version of heaven. Ultimately, I’m starting to think they didn’t just plain die.

Simoun [15]

Of course, when I assume a fake cliffhanger, it turned out to be a legit one.

Go figure.

Anyway, this episode had tons of developments.

So the Simouns, or rather the helical motors, are more than just machines. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough in this episode for me to discern what it really is.

Ahh, screw the main story. I’m starting to care less and less about it. It’s all about the girls… and damn were they jacked up in this episode.

Aeru is unintentionally becoming a raging bitch. Or maybe it is intentional… dunno yet. She increasingly hates on Paraietta every episode. Just when you think she’s giving into Paraietta by agreeing with her, she turns around and slams some words again. It was worse this time around since she was so subtle about it. Sneaky lil girl.

Actually, I shouldn’t single out Aeru. Half the characters hate on Parietta. Sadly, I only somewhat empathize with her. She’s obsessing with Neviril way too much. She thinks she has good intentions but she’s long crossed the line from “good friend” into “obsessive parent that can’t let go of her child.” Buuut, I ain’t heartless. I do pity her to a degree.

And for more Aeru, what is she up to with Neviril? I still can’t figure it out. She has no inner monologue, which is rare for a main character, so I don’t see any more than what the characters around her see. Surprisingly, she apologized but of course, Neviril ain’t gonna accept that. She thinks she’s being used and honestly, I think so too… at least until I can figure out Aeru’s deal.

Next up is Waporif. She got jacked hardcore by Morinas. I’m undecided on who to side with. It’s mostly because I don’t know Morinas’ deal. Does she want to be viewed as “sacred?” Or just as another girl? She was aloof at first, then she went through that speel on how the Simoun probably is god’s chariot (or whatever it was). Then she gets pissed cuz Waporif regretted taking apart a Simoun.

“Undecided” was the wrong word. I’m straight up confused.

And lastly, Dominura was the most jacked up.

And I thought her eyes were crazy in the last episode. She went from stoic and unemotional to weak and powerless in mere seconds. Seriously, what the fuck did she see? Her crappy explanation had better not be it. I don’t care if this gets all metaphysical on me; as long as it properly explains shit.

…unfortunately, that’s a paradox.

Alright, I guess I should touch up on the main story. There’s all this drama building up between the girls and they keep losing pairs in this recon mission. A pair flies out, some drama, another pair flies out, more drama, yet another flies flew out, even more drama… what the hell is going on.

No way in hell this is a fake cliffhanger. No way. Srsly.

No way.
