School Rumble – Final Thoughts

Goooooood stuff.

School Rumble does not fail to entertain. The stories don’t just revolve around a handful of characters and one male lead and it’s all these characters that really drive School Rumble. Many of the characters display unique characteristics that aren’t arbitrary. Harima is completely different from the typical male MCs while Tenma, Eri, Karen, and a few others display traits not found in characters typical of their type.

And it’s not just the characters themselves. The interaction between all these fun characters, many of which are caught up in this huge love dodecagon, provide the most entertainment. Sure, the stories are fun and the “action”, like during the sports festival, is highly entertaining, but in the end, what drove me to wanting more School Rumble was to see the characters develop with each other.

Silly comedies don’t normally deserve such extensive praise but School Rumble isn’t normal. I wanted to see more of these characters and I wanted to see how things developed between them all the while laughing my ass off.

I didn’t get to blog School Rumble back when I first watched but if I did, I would have ended the mini-review entry with:

“I can’t wait for more School Rumble.”

Overall series score: 9.4 out of 10

School Rumble [26] (fin)

And that’s that. After the silliness that was Harima’s manga, the rest of the stories played out nicely.

Tenma trading places with Iori was different but I’m glad the Harima/Eri encounter wasn’t changed. The very last scene with Karasuma and Tenma was ghetto. I suppose they didn’t know if they’d have a sequel so “just in case” they had to “end” it… ehhh…

Haha, I justify it and now I have no choice but to accept it. Of course, they only “closed” Tenma’s story and totally left Harima hanging.

Ok, I’ll shut up. It’s not like any of this matters now since there is a sequel.

I will note one quick thing though. Throughout this series, the art was solid but the animation was poor. Not only was the animation poor, they incorporated a lot of “special effects” in the background for action scenes, like colored race lines and splash effects, instead of keeping the shots in the “real world.”

That’s kinda stupid. I know it’s for effect but it was done so much that I actually noticed it.

Ok, now I’ll really shut up. Time to finally enjoy some new stuff!

School Rumble [24-25]

After seeing what developed at the end of episode 25, I can say for certain that I did finish watching this first season.

But before that, the montage!

As per usual, it’s misunderstandings stacked up on top of misunderstandings. Suprisingly, Eri is happy for what she and Harima shared after the sports festival. I must’ve completely missed that line in the manga. She’s also jealous when confronting Yakumo… I should pay more attention when reading manga, haha. I put her at “starting to like Harima” a bit later in their story.

And Tenma needs to learn to listen or Yakumo needs to learn to speak… heh. Silly sisters.

Now then…

I distinctly remember my reaction to the end of episode 25 back when I first watched it. I had the same reaction just now after finishing it.

What the fuuuuuuuuck?!

Yep. That was my exact reaction… well, maybe with some more ‘u’s thrown in. I had already read the story in the manga when I first watched it so obviously, I knew they made that shit up for the anime.

I remember how this lil alien Oji story ends so it’s not that exciting.

Ah well, better just finish this up so I can finally watch School Rumble anime I haven’t seen before. As I noted back in my first entry for this anime, I never saw the OVAs nor the second season so I’m greatly looking forward to it.

I can’t wait to watch the survival game in anime form. That should be hawt.

Buuuuut first, gotta finish this season.

School Rumble [23]

And they’re off!

Silly Shigeo

Is Eri alright?

Mikoto, Miharu and Megumi try hard…

…but Eri’s pride loses it for them. Silly Eri.

The girls look on while the guys get ready.

Except for Lala, she always stares at Karen. Haha… ya know, maybe Lala’s a… hmm…

The boys put on their game faces.

Show them what real bo… men are made of!

Of course, Imadori has to be a goof, hahaha. “Special Rolling…” HAHAHAHA… he’s too much.

Now to relax…

This *should* have been the culmination for Harima’s and Eri’s story but unfortunately, many more misunderstandings and accidents await them. I loved this episode though. A few nondescript characters were shown a bit more and I’m looking forward to when others come out of the shadows.

I thought Harima had a nice line he said about Eri after their last scene but I guess that was later on in the series. It was probably the only time he ever said anything good about her, heh.

Imadori could look really cool when he doesn’t look so damn goofy, heh.

Oh yeah, the main reason I loved this episode…

Neko Eri, what else?

Yeah yeah, that’s not really neko mimi but it’s close enough! I’ll take it!

So three more episodes left. Hmm…

I can’t remember what happens. Heh… oh well.

School Rumble [22]

Note: Haha, those two girls were the same in the manga. I just missed it while reading it. They so totally look like the chicks from Pretty Cure.

With that aside, we open up with some pre-Kibasen battle warm-ups.

On Your Mark…

Get Set…

Go Go Go!!

It’s over already? Whatever, Karen wins!

The “battle” scenes during the Kibasen were tight. Karen is so buff yet she’s so cute… it’s an impossible combination yet she exists, haha. Frankensteiners are pimp.

Oh yeah, there was that one scene where Karen ran into Lala during Karen’s date with Imadori. I wonder if that was left out or maybe it was later in the manga?

Mai: “Hey, listen to me!”
Imadori: “No way, it’s scary.”

HAHAHA… I can watch that scene over and over again and laugh every time.

Imadori shows off his cool side by protecting Mikoto but sadly, he’d probably only do it for her. Ya gotta wonder if he has any interest in her at all other than her breasts. Sure, it started off that way but as time passes, he “targets” them less and less and still wants to hang out with her.

They also left out Tani-sensei’s cookie scene. It was a small thing but it was funny.

Next up is the relay race. From this point on, my memory is hazy. I’m not sure if I finished this series. I might have stopped watching somewhere around this point. The relay race can’t take up more than a couple episodes so I wonder how they cap off this first season?
