Ouran High School Host Club [25-26] (Fin)

I finished something again. I should stop before it becomes a habit.

MAH! (redux)

“MAH” has no relevance. I had to use it one last time.

MAH!

Okay, now I’m done.

This was a solid end to the series. The level of drama was just right. If they decided to get overly intensive with the drama, it would’ve completely stood out. That was my biggest concern and I’m glad it played out as it did.

The story wrapped up as expected. Haruhi didn’t hook up with anyone but it was (sorta) obvious who she’s leaning towards. I assumed some heart-warming moments then back to the usual and that’s exactly what happened.

What wasn’t expected… or rather, quite surprising was the focus of the story. Of course, I assumed Haruhi would be at the center. Instead, it was all about Tamaki. I did enjoy the story… maybe more than it’s worth since I didn’t expect it. This is what happens when I watch too much cliched anime. It warps my mind and makes me think in a certain direction.

Back to my point, the story was good. It flowed well, had it’s “twists” and ended appropriately. I honestly can’t complain since it went along at the same pace it’s always been on. Ah, ok, you got me, I do have one teeny weeny issue. Up until now, Haruhi hasn’t shown the slightest bit of interest towards Tamaki, other than friendship. So, her (presumed) jealousy came off slightly random.

See, that’s it. I won’t bitch about anything else. Honest.

…that episode title for episode 25 totally gave everything away, huh?

LAST ONE I SWEAR!

Back to my poi… shit, what was it?

FINI!

“Game over man, game over!”

Yeah, the cap kinda sucks but I’m too lazy to find a better one. It was also easy to cap since it flashed right at the end of the episode, haha.

Well, this was a short journey but definitely a great ride. I said the ending would influence my decision, right? It teetered me towards a more positive mini-review.

Once I got in the mindset of watching this as a sit-com, I definitely enjoyed it more. It relaxed my ever-constantly-thinking mind so I could soak everything in without problems, namely my even-more-ever-constantly bitchings. Yes, I did have issues with some parts but none to the degree where I have to mention (bitch about) it. Except those AWFUL LOBERIA WHORES…

*Ahem*

Let’s leave it at “I enjoyed it” and move on. At the start, I mentioned Haruhi as the only character that kept me in. Now that I’m done, I still stand by that statement. Occasionally, the rest of the cast had me bustin’ up like crazy but that’s it. They were fun to watch but not interesting enough to where I looked forward to their antics. It’s worth mentioning that none of them annoyed me. Seriously, that’s a huge plus.

Haruhi is probably the most normal character I will ever enjoy watching. After 26 episodes, I still can’t pinpoint why I liked her character. I just did. Maybe I’ll come up with a reason in the future that will satisfy this mystery even though it won’t make any sense yet I’ll feel it justifies everything but really it was totally made up.

Though, does it really matter? I like her. To the end, I wanted to keep watching for her. Oh, then I suppose I do have a legitimate complaint. She needed more back story. Or at least, more control in the stories she was apart of. Most of the time, everyone around her took the lead and she was just a rag doll along for the ride.

All (minor) complaints aside, this anime was tons o’ fun. Given the open ending, its popularity and that the manga is still going, I look forward to more Ouran High School Host Club in the future.

For now, maybe I’ll read the manga… heh heh.

Overall series score: 9.0 out of 10

Ouran High School Host Club [24]

No finale yet.

This one was all about Kyoya.

I don’t have much for this episode. I was planning to blog the last few episodes together on the assumption that the final story would kick in with this episode. Seeing as how that wasn’t the case… here I am.

Kyoya hasn’t been a very pivotal character; I wonder why his back story was saved for this late in the series? Nonetheless, his story was cool. His love/hate relationship with Tamaki was always noticeable and it’s nice to finally see some of the holes filled in.

As usual, I’m late in noticing something. Generally, the main character an anime series’ is the one that “changes” people. From making characters fall in love with them to making villains “see the light” and become good guys to solving everyone’s problems… it’s usually the main character that does it all. For this anime, it’s a lil different.

Haruhi has been “the one” at times but Tamaki was a huge influence as well. Hell, I’d say Tamaki made a bigger difference for some of the characters than Haruhi did. The only character Haruhi has affected more is Tamaki, who obviously can’t influence himself. I have no clue where this thought is leading. It was fluttering about in my head while watching Kyoya’s back story and I felt it necessary to jot it down.

Now I sorta regret it. Ah well…

I can has finale nao?

(Incoming nonsensical adendum)

ZOMG INOUE KIKUKO!

I haven’t heard her shmecksy voice in a helluva long time. Yes, that reads “shmecksy.”

Her shmecksy voice deserves a made up word. Don’t front the shmecksiness!

MAH!

Funniest.
Episodes.
Evar.

I laughed so damn much and so damn loud.

And to think I thought episode 22 was gonna be lame. Introducing a new character this late in a series usually spells disaster. The characters rarely get fleshed out well before the finale and thus suffer from a lack of development. Plus, it’s kinda cheap and always makes me think they ran out of ideas and had too many episodes left over so they had to fill it with some nonsense.

It was the total opposite effect this time. That last paragraph was completely worthless, wasn’t it? Anyway, Kasanoda was a solid character. “MAH!” is now my favorite quote. I was bustin’ up so hard at the end of episode 22. I so didn’t expect that. Most notably, Kasanoda’s addition to this raggity roster increased teh funnay amongst the rest of the cast. Plus, it helped set up the final story (presumably).

There was some cheesiness in the episodes but overall, this pair was definitely awesome. I haven’t laughed out loud that much in a while. Oh oh oh, the scene after Kasanoda got “dumped” and was being consoled and Hani was shoving that bunny in his face… HAHAHAHAHAHAH. OMG I’m laughing again.

Gooooood shit.

Time for the finale. Up to this point, my thoughts have been up and down for this anime. By now, I should have a damn good idea on how I feel about this anime but instead, I’m teetering. The ending will probably weigh in a lot more than I’d normally give credit. I don’t like letting the ending influence my enjoyment too much yet it might be the case here.

I should shut the hell up and find out.

EDIT: Haha I just remembered while starting up the next episode… Is Haruhi even close to paying off her debt? That was the reason she got stuck hosting. All the silliness caused me to totally forget about that. Granted, it hasn’t been much of a factor in any of the stories. It’s just that now I wonder if it’ll play into the final story.

Bleah… again, shut the hell up and find out.

Ouran High School Host Club [21]

And it’s right back to the silliness.

If you’re gonna be silly, do it like this. It works. There’s no need to add in a trio of chicks that should DIE IN A FIRE. No need at all.

*Ahem*

Kaoru’s inner monologue throughout the episode seems like it’s setting something up. He’s the only one noticing the subtle changes between him and Hikaru. If it does lead into something, I’m not sure which direction it’ll go. Now that I think about it, this makes it two episodes in a row that featured the twins. I don’t think any character got two consecutive episodes before… intriguing…

…no, not really. Plus, I could be wrong. This episode was marginally worth blogging but since it’s the last one for the night… yeah, that’s why.

Moving along to more random shit…

Initially, if one were to presume Haruhi would hook up with one of the guys, all the signs pointed at Tamaki. No one else expressed nearly as much interest in Haruhi as he did. Now, I wonder about that. Tamaki is still Tamaki but Hikaru is now a contender. He, himself, may not think it but with Kaoru “speaking” Hikaru’s mind, it makes me wonder.

Of course, this all presumes the… uhh… presumption about Haruhi hooking up. This anime barely classifies as a romance so that presumption is rather huge.

And… that’s all I got.

Ehhhhhhhh…

These episodes were kinda meh.

Episode 18 was as close to as meh as can be except at the very end. It was hilarious when Mori went through that whole speech, lookin’ all wise and shit, only to guess wrong about Mori letting his bro win. That small scene redeemed a few minutes of that episode.

Episode 19 was uber mehhhhh. The Loberia chicks need to die in a fire.

The last one wasn’t a bad episode. It was sub-par because the twins story has been told several times now and it’s always the same damn story. They finally went into more detail but it was just an expansion of what was already told. Basically, it was repetitive. They should have left out the previous instances of their story or… well, actually, that’s it. If they did that, I would’ve enjoyed episode 20 significantly more.

I did like the way it was told. It was an interesting way to flashback but again, that wasn’t enough to give their story new flavor. The lack of Haruhi didn’t help either.

This series is in the final stretch now. They best produce more quality shit!

And please DEAR GOD PLEASE no more of those Loberia chicks.
