Manabi Straight! [11-12] (Fin)

So totally overly cute.

The wrap-up with the School Festival in episode 11 was sweet. Cute, funny and heart-warming. I expected nothing more and as such, I liked it. Those girls sure know how to rock out, huh? That one girl with the glasses was hilarious.

Then it jumps to over two years later and suddenly, the girls are graduating in episode 12. I definitely didn’t expect that. Granted, I watched these episodes back-to-back so I left very little time to actually *try* and expect something but even with time, I wouldn’t have expected that. Good stuff, though. It allowed for a really nice closing episode.

And OH DAMN, there was even an epilogue… well, pseudo-epilogue. I suppose a year and five months doesn’t constitute as much of an epilogue. Still, it was nice to see the girls being the same silly girls as always.

まっすぐ GO!

What? I couldn’t do all this typage on Manabi Straight! w/o using that at least once, could I? Plus, it has a nicer meaning when associated with that cap.

So I finished a series. Not just any series, an overly cute one. A crazy funny, overly cute one. The story was done well and these overly cute girls had their share of pizazz. A big key to that was the VAs.

Horie Yui is Horie Yui and she always does a fine job. I have newfound respect and interest for Hirano Aya and Nonaka Ai. For all these VAs, their voice “acting” was awesome. I especially liked Nonaka Ai. And to think, I found her voice annoying when she did Konoe in Mahou Sensei Negima.

So again, this was some funny shit. Good story, fun characters, and overall enjoyable mood. Oh yeah, and it was some funny shit.

I need to find a sound clip of Mika’s battle cry from episode 8.

Overall series score: 8.8 out of 10

Manabi Straight! [10]

Damn, that resolved quickly.

I thought the story would go at least to the next episode. So basically, I got interested in the story the episode before it resolved. Heh.

It was a solid resolution. No matter how bleak the previous episodes made things seem, the girls had already made friends with the rest of the school and it was simply a matter of time for them to stop being bitches.

Yeah, that’s it in a nutshell, hahaha.

Ya know, in the end, Shimojima was the key to victory. If he didn’t get the girls to use the old dorms, nothing would have changed for the girls, right? Of course, the girls still treat him like shit, haha. Momoha too. They were both key to this victory and they are still treated horribly.

I say all that but it adds to the comedy so screw them, hahaha.

Manabi Straight! [8-9]

Wow, this whole series is about the School Fair. I expected some sort of running story but not one that covered nearly the whole series. Good stuff, though.

And fuckin’ hilarious.

At times, it’s difficult to take any of the drama seriously since there’s so much humor riddled everywhere. Oh man, Mika’s pumped up yell in episode 8 after Manabi’s long ass speech… oh man… HAHAHA. That was way too much. I watched that scene several times.

Sadly, even though this series is pure hilarity every other second and fairly light-hearted, I can’t yet guess how things will turn out for the girls. The sporadic scenes between Shimojima and the School Principal don’t make it seem very positive, though.

I’m more interested in the story now. Of course, I don’t want any of the comedy sacrificed. As long as TEH FUNNAY remains, I want to know what happens to the girls.

And OMG Momoha did something. And it was pretty cool, to boot.

LOLOL!

The first half of this episode was some funny shit. Incredibly funny shit. I had more LOLOL moments in the first half of this episode than the whole series prior to it and the previous episodes were definitely funny.

Then it busts out some depressing information which will probably lead to a depressing turn of events which may be resolved thus alleviating anything depressing though it may not be resolved and spawn off into something different and maybe I should give this run-on sentence a break now.

Haha…

There had to be some bitch ass to take up a pseudo-baddie role, right? I suppose that was inevitable. I’m moderately curious as to how that pans out presuming it doesn’t end up cliche.

Mainly, I want MOAR HUMAR!

I’m, like, so slow. Why do I always miss the obvious shit?

Manabi may be the title character but it’s quite apparent (now, cuz I’m friggin’ slow) that Mika is also a main character. Most of the inner monologue belongs to Mika. Hell, it could be all of it but I haven’t been paying enough attention. Also, the past two stories have featured Mika and if I include her stories with Manabi, then pretty much every episode featured Mika.

Yep, like, so slow.

With that aside, this episode was decent. Mutsuki is an alright character so I couldn’t expect the episode to go beyond decent. She’s definitely a great character in the show, though. As in, she’s a great friend. Probably the most caring one of all the girls.

Mika is often empathetic to those “in need” but due to her shy personality, she rarely acts upon her thoughts to help others. Mutsuki is your typical “act first, think later” girl and with her being nice, she’ll have much more “good friend” moments.

That last paragraph had way too many quotes.

Where was I… umm… nowhere, actually.

My thoughts have slightly differed for this show now that there’s two MCs. Of course, maybe it’s just a viewpoint thing for now since the series is in the middle episodes and Manabi will take over later… but then, Mika has had the inner monologue all this time so I don’t know…

Beh, why the hell do I care? It ain’t like any of this will change how I feel about the show. It’s still good fun with just enough seriousness to add a lil spice in between all the comedy.

Btw, does Momoha have a purpose, like, at all?
