Ichigo Mashimaro – Final Thoughts

Since I hadn’t started this viewing update when I first finished the series, I might as well throw in a series review now.

What can I say? This has been one of the more entertaining animes I’ve seen in a while. Unless you accept the fact that it’s a show about nothing, you can’t truly enjoy the anime. The “plot” is purely driven by the characters and (very frequent) random instances of comedy, especially consisting of Miu’s many strange yet hilarious antics. I immensely enjoyed watching it and hope a sequel will come out eventually. The manga is still running in Japan so that possibility exists.

If one expects any kind of running story or intense drama from this anime, they will only end up in disappointment. I can’t stress enough that this show is about nothing. It’s basically a slice-of-life anime with even less of a plot and filled with random comedy. Think Seinfeld but with lolis.

Overal series score: 9.0 out of 10

Ichigo Mashimaro [12] (fin)

I guess a part of me didn’t want this series to end so I kept putting off the last episode (even though this is a re-watch). This was a sweet lil Christmas story to wrap things up. A cute ep with plenty of funny moments in the same vein. This wasn’t the funniest episode but it definitely had one of the (if not THE) funniest moments for this series.

Henshin Santa!

Ok, so out of context, it makes little sense… wait, even in context it doesn’t make much sense. It’s just friggin’ hilarious!

Ichigo Mashimaro [11]

Another fufilling episode and that leaves one more left… to re-watch… again… uhh…

The gang goes to a public bath and well… Miu… umm….

*snicker*

Seriously, what is it with fart jokes? I’ll be 80 and still laugh at them. It’s so immature yet…. pwahaha.

Seriously…

The bubbles are the first sign…

The culprit!

The first victim!

The next one!

No one is safe!

The interrogation!

Pwahahaha… you’ve gotta see the scene in all it’s glory to really get it. The subtle reactions and sounds… priceless.

Wow, such high praises for a mere fart joke. But dammit, it’s funny.

Ichigo Mashimaro [10]

There was some point to this ep, I think, but I never caught it. Less silly than the other eps but not every ep can be insanely crazy, right? Well, it probably can but you gotta throw some “normal” stuff in too.

Time for more… uh… dunno yet. Food, actually, then something.

Ichigo Mashimaro [8-9]

My re-watch continues. More Miu silliness in ep 8. I just can’t get enough of her antics. Just when you think she might be normal, she does something unexpected and it’s always funny.

Hahaha, especially when she kept doing this

And again

She’s just too much.

Ep 9 was ok. It featured Chika and she’s the most bland character of the cast. It’s fine since you have to have one stable character to offset all the different personalities. She could’ve been fleshed out more since there are some stories in the manga involving her that were plenty funny but they left it out of the anime.

Actually, a lot of the anime is different from the manga. The “scenes” are there but they’re all out of order and many parts of it are changed. For one, Anna didn’t appear in the manga until volume two and there were a lot of things in the anime that happened before Anna got there, like when the kids played in the park (there was no Anna in the manga there).

No big deal though since as long as the comedy and character personalities remain in tact, it’s fine. Unlike a manga with a “real” story, something like Ichigo Mashimaro doesn’t have to be a carbon copy of the manga to be just as funny… or in my case, even funnier.
