Hayate no Gotoku! [21]

What a queer episode. Queer but funny.

…but really queer. I can get used to the randomness but the extra story elements thrown into this episode was so nonsensical.

Ahhh… it was funny. I shouldn’t complain… oh wait, I should.

MOAR AYUMU NAO!

Hayate no Gotoku! [19-20]

It’s been a bit too busy lately hence the lack of updates. Additionally, when I do have some time, I’ve been immersing myself in manga so anime is gettin’ the shaft. I suppose a manga update is in order but I lack the drive to write up shit about manga.

Or I’m lazy.

I threw in all the stuff I’m reading plus series’ I recently finished in the side menu so meh. It kinda sorta really looks ghetto the way it is now but again, no manga entry so that’s that.

Anyhow, these two episodes were fun.

Thankfully teh funnay picked up again. The last episode was a huge let-down and I was afraid I’d have to go through a few episodes of crap before it picked up again.

No real development in these episodes. Just plenty of hilarity. I still wonder if there will be any story arcs in the future. I don’t mind the episodic comedy stories but given some of the past episodes, it has the potential to bust out some interesting longer stories.

In any case, episodes like these two are more than welcome. They’re plenty of fun to watch, for now, especially if it includes more Ayumu. Her character seems rather plain and honestly, I can’t think of any incredibly redeeming qualities of her yet it’s fun every time she’s on. I can’t explain it so I’ll just stick with MOAR AYUMU NAO.

Hayate no Gotoku! [18]

Like last time, I caught this as soon as I grabbed it and… ehh…

It sucked.

There was way too much randomness and half of it didn’t make sense. I can understand having obligatory beach episodes but if you’re gonna do it, just fill it up with fan service. Don’t try to make some weird story out of it. It was too damn nonsensical.

It didn’t help that they left out most of the interesting characters.

The next episode seems to be going back to actual character development so hopefully this show starts picking up again… or I’ll lose the drive to watch it as soon as I acquire it.

Hayate no Gotoku! [17]

Nagi wants more real life experiences but instead, screws things up and comedy ensues. Fun stuff.

It’s been a while since I watched something as soon as I acquired it.

Probably a good sign that I enjoy this series, eh?

Not much to discuss regarding this episode.

So instead…

In Hayate’s world, butlers are there to properly raise their masters. The few butlers that have shown up have more or less been dominant in their relationship between themselves and their masters.

Hayate and Nagi’s relationship is different.

Hayate gets thrown about by Nagi often and though he often tries to instill his own beliefs onto Nagi, she still does her own thing. It seems he should be doing more and I’m not sure if he’s like that due to being indebted or if he’s still learning. I mean, Hayate is extremely naive so it’s hard to tell if he’s actually learning anything as a butler.

His will to serve Nagi derives from wanting to protect her. Initially, it stemmed from him wanting to pay her back but it seems he truly does want to protect her now. This is only one aspect of butlers in this world. I’m curious if Hayate will develop some of the other butler traits or if he’ll spawn off into something else.

Also, the romantic elements in this series isn’t very prominent. Will those develop into larger stories later on? Or will things be as it is and be overshadowed by the comedy?

Hmm…

Ya know, it just occurred to me that there are a lot of girls in this anime. Off hand, I count 9 girls so far… but by no means would this anime be classifed as a harem. For certain, there’s only one girl that likes Hayate (Nishizawa) and I could argue that Nagi likes him too.

I’m not sure where I was going with that…

All these things make me curious cuz of the length of this anime. Last I checked, it’s scheduled for 52 episodes so there’s gotta be something to drive it. I’m sure there’s plenty of lengthy stories to come but I’m curious as to what they will entail.

Will it be about Hayate becoming an uber butler? Maybe all the girls start falling for him one-by-one? How about more intense action from all the villains chasing after Nagi’s inheritance? All of the above?

Yep, just makes me curious… enough to rant so much about such a simple anime, hahaha. Guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

Hayate no Gotoku! [3-16]

Ok, that last bit of randomness at the end of episode 16 really ruined my marathon.

The rest was awesome.

Parody. Slapstick. Normal.

And probably a host of other comedic styles I don’t know “official” names of.

This anime does it all and it does it well. Random humor is the abundant form of comedy in anime so it’s rare to watch one that doesn’t use it as often.

Aaaand… that’s all I’ll go into for that. It’s hard for me to explain why I find this anime so damn hilarious. It’d be easy to just say “this char or that char does funny shit and I laugh,” but it’s not that simple. It’s like, genuine comedy… or something like that.

I love the narration. Not only that, it’s hilarious watching the characters “speak” to the narrator as well as the audience. Kinda reminds me of the Looney Toons and other old school WB cartoons. It’s different so it’s funny. Yeah, that’s it.

Oh man, the parodies and name-drops are awesome. I only pick up on about half of either but I love when I do. I wouldn’t call this a parody anime at all but it does have its fair share of it.

The story is interesting but it seems more than just Hayate being Nagi’s new butler. The descriptions I read made it seem as such but after watching these episodes, it’s much more than that. It’s about his new life all together. Being a butler is just a part of it and that makes the story more interesting.

Of course, I don’t need to get that up into it. It’s not exactly a complicated story and it’s the characters that really drive this anime.

Speaking of which, on to some of the characters…

Nishizawa sure loves to eat, haha.

I feel I’m missing some reference or joke regarding it. For the first 10 or so episodes, she’d make brief appearances while always eating something. Sure, it’s comedic on its own but I really do feel I’m totally missing something.

Ah well, she’s cute so s’all good. Hayate should go for her, heh. She hasn’t done a whole lot but I’m kinda favoring her. She’s probably an underdog too so… whoo!

Go go Nishizawa!

Of course, then there’s Maria.

Such a lovely character. She fulfills the typical gentle and kind maid personality with a strong sense of realism and she’s totally down-to-earth. She’s the sanest character among the whole cast (Hinagiku is close).

It’s like, she fulfills the stereotype plus she has more lovable qualities.

Yeah, scratch that. Go go Maria!

Ooooh… even though she’s the typical loud-mouthed loli character…

Nagi is cool, too.

She’s every bit as loud and selfish as the next stereotype except she doesn’t annoy me. At all. Not in the least.

That’s rather amazing. Her voice doesn’t bother me either. Quite a feat, really.

Yeah, screw it. Go go Nagi!

Oh noes, but what about Hinagiku?

Actually, she’s kinda bland. Her appearance is plain and her personality is that of a typical class rep. I liked her somewhat aloof personality when she first appeared, since she seemed more playful, but in the end she was just another class rep.

Given the references in the anime that she was voted first in a character popularity poll, I felt she deserved her spot here… even though she’s nothing great.

Go go Hinag… no, nevermind. (I don’t hate her. She just doesn’t stand out much compared to the others.)

Well, this may be one of the very few anime where I don’t find a single character annoying. I don’t hate anyone… I don’t even kinda not like anyone. Most of them are fun in their own way while the rest are just normal. It’s something short of uberly impressive.

Hayate is one of the more interesting characters and that’s so rare for me. No matter who an anime features, if it has strong romantic elements, I’ll always enjoy watching one or more of the girls over the male MC. Hayate is genuinely entertaining and loads of fun to watch. He’s so diligent and earnest yet not so naive where I’d call him a fuckin’ moron.

Oh wait, I did forget a couple annoying characters.

Hayate’s parents still need to die a bloody, painful death. One that takes days to kill them while each second is pure, agonizing torture.

*Ahem*

Yep yep, great anime. I jump around different shows often and end up dropping so many but this one is definitely a keeper.

Hah… I say that but don’t hold it against me. I’ve got plenty of series’ I’ve never finished even though I said something like that, hahaha. But seriously, this one is so much fun to watch.

Oh snap, almost forgot one of the best characters.

AH HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I bust up every time Tama does, well… anything. Fuckin’ crazy tiger.

I’m lovin’ this, I want MOOOOOAARRRRR!
