Geh, why do I fall for these traps.
It started off “meh”…

…and the drama was “meh”…

…and the ending was “meh”…

…and I knew it’d be like that the whole time yet I still finished it.
Meh.
I don’t feel like going all up into this anime since I’ll end up bitchin’ so here’s a copy/paste of the things I jotted down while watching (slightly formatted):
(episode) 1 – OMG his dad’s alive.
2 – He liked Riko before he got his harem? How unusual.
3 – WTF he confessed? And he got shot down… where is this going…
7 – At least the story doesn’t hop around from character to character and leave past one’s hanging, especially leaving the main story hanging. Actually, it’s staying focused on the main story by using the side characters… kinda surprising.
8-9 – They hooked up already? No way…
- Man, why do childhood friends gotta be shafted all the time. I always root for them too. Well, Riko is kinda a childhood friend too but Kirino was always there! She’s the one!
9 – Booo, Riko’s a dirty cheater.
10 – Dammit. Quit making Kirino look like the bad one.
- How the hell does it take 10 years to notice someone likes you?
- Good, it was all Haruhiko’s fault. Bastards trying to make me hate Kirino, how dare they?!
And that’s that. Obviously, each “-” (dash) was when I felt like jotting something down. There’s a couple others but I threw that in as edits in the previous entry.
Anyhow, I won’t rant. Instead, I’ll note how somewhat intrigued I am by the way the story was told. They didn’t set things up with “here’s the hero saving each girl” one-shot episodes then hit up the main story. They also didn’t go relaxed mood, spike it up a bit in the middle, go relaxed again then kick it in at the end either.
They blew things up right at the start and spread out the main story via a few episodic one’s then wrapped it all up at the end. In other words, they stayed with the main story nearly the entire time. Hell, I wouldn’t even consider this a harem anime. It was only a love triangle. For that much, I was impressed.
The rest… not-so-much. I disliked most of the characters. Hell, Maki was the most fun to watch. Usually the MCs “best friend” turns out annoying but he was silly AND reliable. The loli teacher was a riot and I also liked Kirino but I’m always bettin’ on the childhood friends so I’m biased. Even so, she was a good, honest kid that was widely ignored by the idiot Haruhiko. That ass.
I won’t rant… I won’t bitch… Just breathe… *inhale* *exhale*
Ok, the story was told in an interesting way and was definitely refreshing. It didn’t stray from the main story and some of the emotional scenes were done well. I really did feel for Kirino when she was breaking down. The story itself was far from original except the simple “gift” element. The fact that it was damn near a rip-off of Da Capo didn’t help either.
Wait… wait… I won’t bitch…
In the end, the story layout and Maki and Kirino kept me in (even though Kirino’s “issue” was contrived and total crap). I suppose it was more curiosity (AND MY FUCKIN’ OBSESSION) that kept me going. Or something… bah, who cares. I’m done.
Oh wait, there’s an OVA. Shit.
Overall series score: 6.1 out of 10
