Dennou Coil [1-3]

Yeah, instead of watching some of the stuff I backlogged during my time away from anime, I decide to check out a new series instead.

Go me.

This is why I end up backlogging shows in the first place. Well, that and the fact that I tried to watch 894759834 different shows at once.

Aaaanyway…

This series is funky. It caught my attention since it was about virtual and real worlds intertwining with the use of virtual glasses.

Like virtual pets.

Then I watched it.

And it’s even funkier.

So there’s some new technology that allows real interaction with virtually created objects that can only be seen (and presumably interacted with) while wearing these glasses. Not only that, these glasses seem to be more than just glasses. It allows the user to utilize anything as anything. That’s an assumption on my part but it seems to hold true.

I mean, one can use their hand as a phone and pull up virtual interfaces seemingly at their whim.

Yes, she’s actually talking on the phone with her mother via her fingers. And that interface in front of her is one of many that just pops up whenever they need it.

Of course, just that much wouldn’t make the show funky. This near seamless combination of a virtual world and a real world interacting is done well. The funkiness comes in the story.

Oh, and the queer anti-hacking “software” that roams around.

The story involves hackers, virtual pets getting infected by viruses, and this poor lil girl named Yuko that’s caught in the middle. Probably much more but I don’t feel like summarizing. Eh, as funky as it is, it does seem interesting. I think I’ll follow it.

If not at least for Yuko’s sister, Kyoko. She fuckin’ hilarious.

And she treats Yuko’s virtual dog like shit.

It’s fuckin’ hilarious.
