About     Front     Main

Nagasarete Airantou [15-16]

Heh, so much for using future episodes to go more into the characters.

These were all pretty much about Mei Mei.

Though, its not so bad. She doesn’t seem like she’ll be as exciting a character as most of the original cast but she does bring an interesting element to the show.

All the girls on this island grew up not knowing what a “man’s” role is, as defined by Ikuto of course. Mei Mei did grow up in that environment. She knows how a guy can be “cool” as she noted at the end of episode 16 and how a “normal” girl acts.

Unlike Suzu, Mei Mei covers herself up

Her typical “girlish” reactions may lead to some interesting bits later. Maybe… that presumes this anime will start getting serious at some point… which is hard to presume… quite hard… Then again, Ikuto’s diligence during his fight with Tiger did appear serious. It was brief but it’s definitely notable since that so rarely happens.

Damn, thinking back, Mei Mei got a big introduction story. Three consecutive episodes so far just for her. I marathoned the previous 14 episodes so my memory is hazy but I don’t think any of the girls got that many in a row.

Hmm… I’m thinking way too much on such a simple anime, hahaha.

This anime is so fun.

Oh yeah, and how the fuck is that papa chicken the leader of the West… hahaha.

Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi [24-26]

Just need a lil more tolerance…

…and a story like in these episodes will keep me watching.

It took me 15 minutes to get passed the first 3 minutes of episode 24. I thought I resolved to chill with being so picky with Kenichi but I still ended up ripping my hair out in just these few minutes.

Thank gawd things picked up not too long afterwards… I also kept forcing myself to watch. After the last batch of episodes, I feel there really is progress for Kenichi plus some real enemies are finally showing up so it would’ve been a shame to cut myself off now.

Anyhow, Kenichi’s determination is definitely showing up more often. He’s still got a cowardly mindset and chooses to run first before standing ground but it doesn’t take 2379423 episodes for him to make up his mind now. Lately, his training sessions aren’t shown as much and it’s more real battles and encounters.

Could this finally be a legit turning point? Hell, there was a new intro and ending sequence in episode 26 so maybe…? Hopefully? I’d like to keep my Kenichi bitchin’s to a minimum.

Ahhh… ok. I will do it. I will stay strong. From this point on, I will stop bitchin’ so damn much about Kenichi’s attitude. Seriously, I will… except for the minor comment here and there.

So, shhh…

I shall be resolute!

Oh, I have one more conundrum. Once Kisara’s story ends, she’ll probably disappear like previous characters. That sucks. I liiiiiiike herrrrrr!

Dammit.

Ichigo Mashimaro OVA [3] (Fin)

These cute girls do not fail to entertain.

It was just another day for them. Another day filled with laughter (well, my laughter at least, heh). It’s too bad it’s over… again… *sniff*

Mmm… I don’t recall this story from the manga. It wasn’t that long ago that I read it and I don’t think there’s any new manga out in Japan yet. Meh, not that it made much of a difference. The pacing and comedy was about the same as it always was.

Though, Miu did get knocked on her face significantly more often than usual. I normally laugh like crazy when it happens since it happens so randomly but by the 5th or 6th one for this episode, it really lost it’s steam.

Ah well… no more teh funniness now. *sob*

This short OVA was on par with the first season. A simple story with so much random comedy and Miu is at the forefront of most of it. I love her character. She’s a total ass but hell if I don’t laugh at her antics every single time, haha.

Overall series score: 9.0 out of 10

(Same as the first series)

Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo (Movie)

Great movie.

Time travel is a touchy subject and one I always over-analyze. I kept that to a minimum while watching this one and definitely enjoyed it to its fullest.

The story unfolded very nicely. It started off light-hearted and got deeper as it progressed. The flow was solid and the few twists felt legit. I hate forced or fake twists and in retrospect, the one’s here felt genuine. What started off as a simple time-traveling story developed into a wonderful love story. Time is truly precious and no matter how it gets manipulated, it’s still short.

The animation was quite fluid with solid character movements. Beyond that, the most impressive part was the scenery. The backgrounds were beautifully displayed, highly detailed and brought about a strong sense of calmness.

Makoto was a great character. She had a vibrant personality and was wonderfully fleshed out. If she was real, I’d nominate her for a best actress award… well, almost. Her VA did a damn fine job but there were some parts where the voice acting felt stretched out.

The comedy was a riot. I wouldn’t classify this as a comedy yet I laughed out loud during every funny moment.

Like when Miyuki thought Makoto was gonna kill herself and was dragged around by Makoto…

Oh that was priceless.

Or Makoto’s entrance every time she leaped…

I cringed in pain each time while laughing hysterically. You’d think she’d have a concussion by now, hahaha.

Ultimately, the main reason I enjoyed this movie was due to it being a slice-of-life story. Yes, it really is that simple.

I have no complaints for this movie.

None.

If I over-analyzed the story, maybe… but then this entry would end up being 50 paragraphs longer. So once again, no complaints.

Just pure awesomeness.

Overall series score: 9.5 out of 10

Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi [20-23]

Good shit.

Kenichi going crazy was hawt. I was getting impatient watching until he finally did some cool shit. Unfortunately, it happened after Akisame’s lil spiel on how Kenichi becomes courageous when his friends need him or some shit like that.

I wanted to believe… I really did. I wanted Kenichi to not fall into the same ol’ stereotype. I wanted him to legitimately understand his situation and how he is improving and working hard and overcoming his own obstacles. I didn’t want him to be another cliche.

I truly hoped for something different.

Well, I can still hope. The manga is at a whopping 23 or so volumes and I find it impossible to believe this same Kenichi could carry the story for that long. There’s 40 episodes of the anime out and it has no end date so I can assume it’ll just keep going until it runs out of steam (or the manga actually ends). So again, I can’t fathom Kenichi’s attitude to go on that whole time.

Yes, he’s improving in terms of skill and ability but his mindset is still weak. He’s barely grown at all in that aspect. This isn’t about my hatin’ on his cowardness anymore. Honestly, he hasn’t shown that side of him that much throughout these episodes. If it appeared, it was more for comical effect.

He’s finally showing some good faces but now I’m exhausted having sat through all the crap. I also fear he’ll slip back into being a pussy… ehh… I should take a Kenichi break.

On a different note…

Miu is hella buff, ain’t she?

She took out Kisara like a practice dummy. If they showed their fight in real time, it probably took less than a minute. Given all the hooplah for Kisara, I highly doubt her skill was over-exaggerated so Miu is just insanely buff, right?

She’s pimp in normal mode but I wanna see more of her serious mode. That’s a hawt face she made when she was pissed off (top left cap). She has great combat sense and a variety of skills… man, I wanna see her at her limit.

Hmm… since Kenichi trying to “hit” (touch) Miu gets brought up often, I wonder when he’ll finally be able to do it? Given the skill disparity between them, it doesn’t seem like it’ll happen too soon… at least, not w/o it being a fluke.

ARGH… GET BUFFER ALREADY KENICHI!

or…

IGNORE KENICHI AND LET THIS BE ABOUT MIU INSTEAD!

I kinda favor the latter… hehehe.
